1 Do you outsource your development work?
Updated: 11 Oct 2011

One of the reasons our clients appreciate working with us is that all our work is done in house: We do not outsource any of our development projects, which gives us several key advantages:

  • Better control over quality of development:
We do all the development work ourselves in-house so we know exactly how your solution is built. Developing any system in-house is the best way to control the quality of the work.
  • Better project management:
As everyone is in the same office, your dedicated project manager can get all the information he needs from the rest of the team, instantly, to better help you and answer your queries. It's not so easy to do when your development team is in a different time zone or location.
  • Better client communication:
For more technical discussion, you can talk directly to the developer who working on your project. Nothing is more efficient than direct contact between you and the team member who worked on your project.

3 Project Collaboration and accountability?
Updated: 12 Oct 2011

Wireframes and documentation
Depending on the scope of the project we will document the build in wireframes. This is also known as a page schematic or screen blueprint, which is a visual guide that represents the skeletal framework of a website or application. The wireframe will depicts the page layout or arrangement including interface elements and navigational systems and how they work together. The main focus lies in functionality and behaviour and focuses on “what a screen does”.

This is a very important procedure that will allow you to see exactly what we purpose to build before we start. This will allow us trash out any inconsistence and make changes to the document before we start the build. Once this has be agreed and signed we will be fully accountable to this document.

Ability to track the project on-line
Our in-house project manager works to provide a detailed roadmap of the projects progress task by task. This allows all parties to collaborate on any aspect of the project in a thread like fashion, if and when needed. Each time a task is updated, modified or replied to the system will notify all users of the same, permitting all parties to view, contribute and be involved in the internal communication during the course of the project.

Staging environment and weekly reports
We will also provide direct access to the staging servers which allow you to visually track our progress during the course of the project and will be happy to provide you with a weekly updates in form of an xml spread-sheet.

Communication and availability
As all our work is developed in-house, by a London based team of Joomla specialists, you will be able to communicate directly with us at any time during the course of the project.

Reviewing and testing
On the final week, we will invite you to review our work and be involved in checking over the development prior to rollout. Once signed off, we will deploy the system on any compatible server or provide the Joomla files packaged. These files will consist of a mirror copy of the Joomla system along with the database files using Akeeba Backup.

4 How much can I expect to spend on web site development?
Updated: 07 Nov 2011

Like any valuable piece of marketing collateral developing a web site is an investment in the intellectual property of your company. The cost is really dependent on its size, complexity, and the materials provided to complete the job. If the copy and graphics are provided in a workable electronic format and the project is clearly documented, this will all help to reduce your costs.

In reply, we will provide you with a full breakdown and carefully document the functionality of the project. This will give you a clear and visual understanding of the workings of the project and a chance to iron out any inconsistencies before we start build, this will ensure that prices will not rise during the build.

In relation to this, we would say that a straightforward Joomla website will take around 40 hours to developer from beginning to end while something more complicated will obviously take longer.

6 Would you take on an incomplete or partial build project?
Updated: 18 Oct 2011

Our official position is not to take on a project were we cannot clearly divide between the works done by the previous developer and the work that maybe done by us.  As a reputable business we place a high value on our clientele and want to ensure that a good working practice is set in place from the start.

In order to do this we have two approaches which aims to guide both parties through the initial induction:-

  1. If the last phase of the project was not completed due to technical issues then the best approached maybe to rollback the project and undertake the works again. This may sound a bit drastic however; it will ensure that the build is clearly documented, that the code is clearly written and notated. This will help us to bypassed problems and potential issues with the incompleted phase and ensure that the correct parameters and accountability are set in place to achieve a positive working relationship, which may otherwise not be achievable.

  2. Alternatively, if you want us to pick up an uncompleted project we would require that all known outstanding issues and problems be carefully and clearly documented.  We would ask that this document include screen-shots and steps to reproduce these issues where necessary. We will then ask for 4 hours upfront to look through your documentation and investigate into the integrity of the code.

We will then document our findings and present then to you with a list of recommendations. If we can agree at this point we would be happy to take the project on and finish off the works.
